The biggest problem that art has nowadays is that it doesn’t hurt anymore,” says GHØSTKID vocalist and agent provocateur Sebastian “Sushi” Biesler. “Especially here in Germany, people are so afraid to push boundaries. To make art that makes you think and feel.” It’s not surprising that with GHØSTKID’s second album, HOLLYWOOD SUICIDE, Sushi and company have looked outside the confines of their native country to fuel their energized, hook-laden brand of nu-metalcore. The results are as heartfelt as they are both musically ambitious and sonically seamless. Now, more than ever, GHØSTKID trade in a brand of goth-nu-rock-core that’s sure to push the already high-bar set by GHØSTKID’s 2020’s self-monikered, pandemic-sidelined Century Media debut.

From the trap-metal inspired beats and crushing metalcore riffing that opens the album’s title track to the disquieting melodies of elegiac closer “Helena Drive”, “HOLLYWOOD SUICIDE” is a perfect snapshot of an artist finding himself, crawling from his own personal wreckage against a crumbling, mythical Californian milieu.

American act SKELETAL REMAINS prepare another death metal assault on “Fragments of the Ageless” for Century Media. The line-up of Chris Monroy (guitars/vocals), Mike De La O (guitars), Pierce Williams (drums), and Brian Rush (bass) embody the genre, going deeper, darker, and to the edges of brutality.
“’Fragments of the Ageless’ is a pummeling slab of pure death metal,” says the band. “A tyrannical blast-laden barrage of no-frills riffs and compositions. Everything about this album is f*cking brutal and in your face.”

SKELETAL REMAINS wrote ‘Fragments of the Ageless’ between European and US tours/festivals with Emperor, Morbid Angel, Mortician, Left to Die, and Defeated Sanity among others. The songwriting sessions were characterized by a no-limit mindset, where creativity and known genre rituals were given equal footing. The outcome was not just a definitive death metal showpiece, but an evolution.

“We took things up a notch and really dialed in on the technicality and ever-increasing intensity while still maintaining catchiness,” the group says. “With each new record, we strive to better ourselves in our musicianship and songwriting capabilities. On one end, we’ve increased in density and brutality, and on the other, we wrote a few songs with longer and more ‘epic’ structures.”

The lyrical themes of “Fragments of the Ageless” span folklore, science fiction, history, and personal struggle. They were inspired by the striking Dan Seagrave (Entombed, Memoriam) cover art. The album was co-produced by the band and studio maven Dan Swanö (Opeth, Incantation), who also mixed and mastered.

Death metal’s not dead with “Fragments of the Ageless”. It’s never been deadlier!

With over thirty years of active, nefarious service under their spikes and bulletbelts, Necrophobic are undisputed legends of the death and black metal scene. Formed in 1989 by drummer Joakim Sterner, the Stockholm blackhearts propagated a singular and fearless vision from the very start. Necrophobic established a bold and vivid identity of their own, conjuring a densely melodic, but endlessly wicked take on macabre extreme metal that countless lesser bands have since emulated. Despite numerous line-up changes and moments of turmoil, Necrophobic's dark light has never dimmed. As a result, when the band's most efficacious line-up reconvened for 2018's "Mark Of The Necrogram", it was obvious to fans and critics alike that the Swedish quintet were back to the blistering form that first cemented their reputation. With guitarists Sebastian Ramstedt and Johan Bergeback back in the fold after a five-year hiatus, it was a self-evident career peak for all concerned. Not just the best sounding record of the band's career, but one of the most monstrously dramatic and destructive records of the decade, it made the prospect of the next Necrophobic albums even more mouth-watering. With their 10th studio album, "In the Twilight Grey", the Swedish blackened death metal masters are taking an even deeper plunge into pitch black shadows. Yet again the album was produced, mixed and mastered by Fredrik Folkare (of death metal icons Unleashed) at Chrome Studios, Stockholm and engineered in close collaboration by Folkare and the band themselves. "In the Twilight Grey" doesn't only offer classic Necrophobic treasures such as "Stormcrow" or the title track, but also solemn journeys into somberness like the captivating "Nordanvind".

The band's new album, The Tide of Death and Fractured Dreams, is not only as innovative and brutal as their last disc, the bleak, firestorm Ashes Lie Still, it showcases a band willing to expand it's creativity without sacrificing the ferocity that made it one of the most impressively destructive, technical death metal bands on the scene. The Tide of Death and Fractured Dreams is proof that once Ingested sniff out a trail of musical blood, they ravenously follow it until they've uncovered a festering feast.
